Charles Monkhouse is an artist working in rural and public spaces to create permanent installations and temporary light works.
The permanent installations are developed with local communities and create markers of text on stone recording current thoughts and feelings for future generations.
The light works explore and articulate space on buildings and in landscape working with innovative technology including LEDs, microchips, GPS and radio.
Brocken Spectre, an exploration of this extraordinary apparition, was developed with an Arts Council grant and first shown at Rievaulx Abbey in Holy Week 2017.
Working with local stakeholders informs and enriches my practice. Partners have included English Heritage, Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Peak District National Park Authority, National Trust, schools
and communities, artists and writers.
